Specifier: CannonDesign

Expanding over 119,000 square feet, the Richmond Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC) is one of the largest free-standing children’s mental health facilities in the U.S. This facility was created to serve 70,000 inpatient and outpatient children in need, supporting their healing with a “pavilion in the park” design to help destigmatize behavioral healthcare services, staff and patients.

This inspirational design created by CannonDesign, incorporates natural light, green space and 243 of KIRLIN’S 7″ LED vandal and ligature resistant downlights (LRV-07469). They were installed throughout the facility offering an inviting and calming environment.

Within each of the private dormitory-inspired rooms, KIRLIN’S IP65, BioGard™ antimicrobial 7” downlights (MRV-07840) were installed, providing infection control to the plenum space, and thus, throughout the facility. KIRLIN vandal resistant steplights (LNT-03096-RA-26) with circadian – supportive red amber LED illumination, were chosen for the adjacent bathrooms.

As a result, a healing sanctuary that supports rehabilitation in a safe harbor was accomplished by CannonDesign and KIRLIN.
