Kirlin Luminaires Used In Project: LSR-06473 & LWR-09496

Specifier: Clanton & Ass. Boulder, CO

The historic Union Station is a Beaux Arts masterpiece, expanded into a regional mega-transportation hub that orchestrates light rail, intercity and commuter rail, bus, and bicycle routes and pedestrian pathways.

Goals of SOM, A & E, Denver, included setting the standard for 21st-century inter-modal hubs, protected passenger platforms that feel open to the air, and intuitive navigational pathways with illumination day and night which serves as a beacon for miles.

KIRLIN provided the lighting for three areas: the Pedestrian Bridge, the Station RTD Fastracks, and the Bus Terminal.  Clanton & Associates specified KIRLIN due to its Wet Location listing, energy-efficient LED luminaires with streamlined proportions, narrow flood distribution availability, custom pendant lengths, and sloped canopy mounting capability. Many of the luminaires line the 180′ trusses covered by PTFE fabric canopies.  The luminaires were required to withstand 100 mph wind gusts and moisture penetration.  3000K color temperature LED was selected to complement the white and yellow hues used throughout. Direct/Indirect wall bracket mounted luminaires were selected for the Bus Terminal, drawing the eye up to architectural elements while providing uniform illumination of pathways below.

The result: illumination which highlights the importance of this transportation mecca while providing a safe environment for passengers and a welcoming hub for visitors to the Rocky Mountain state.
