Norman, Oklahoma passed a citizen-initiated proposal to construct and fund quality-of-life projects, including their libraries. The last in a series of three Norman libraries to be built was the Norman Public Library Central. As a part of the Pioneer Library System, this impressive glass structure was constructed to serve as a new town hall that provides shared community spaces, collaborative learning, conference rooms, a bookstore, a local history and genealogy research workspace, a multipurpose room that can host a variety of events and a maker lab that includes professional-grade tools.

When designing and constructing this 80,000-square-foot building, thoughtful details were implemented for the community inside and well as out. The courtyard features a 25-foot-tall sculpture that represents book pages as if they were being blown around. Under the canopy, on the outside of the building, are 33 of Kirlin’s wet-listed LRC-04SDN 4” super shallow lensed downlights. With a 2 3/4″ housing depth, these recessed fixtures help illuminate the path in any type of weather.
